A new poll finds 76 per cent of Canadians say they completely or mostly support the appointment of Mary Simon as Governor General.
The survey by Narrative Research conducted earlier this month found seven per cent of those who were asked oppose the appointment in some way while 16 per cent were unsure.
The Governor General’s lack of fluency in French did not impact her support in Quebec which is comparable to other parts of the country.
People living in Atlantic Canada and British Columbia are a bit more enthusiastic with support ranging from 80 to 82 per cent.
Looking at demographics, Gen-Z (85%) and Boomers (80%) are more likely to support Simon’s appointment compared to Gen-Xers (71%).
The online poll was held between July 13-15, 2021, with 1,231 Canadians surveyed who were 18 years of age or older. As a non-probability sample, and in accordance with CRIC Public Opinion Research Standards, a margin of error is not applied.
