The New Brunswick Medical Society is cautiously optimistic about the end of all public health restrictions in the province.
New Brunswick will move to the green phase of pandemic recovery on Friday, July 30 at 11:59 p.m. when the mandatory emergency order will end and all restrictions related to COVID-19 are lifted.
Medical Society president Dr. Jeff Steeves says the province has lots of positive signs going forward such as a low COVID-19 case count, no hospitalizations and rising vaccination rates.
To continue this trajectory, Dr. Steeves encourages New Brunswickers to get vaccinated if they haven’t done so already since the majority of new cases are among those who are either unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated.
He says the vaccines are our best protection – as individuals and as a community – from the virus and its variants.
As we enter a new normal, Dr. Steeves urges residents to continue following the lessons that helped keep us safe throughout the pandemic, including frequent handwashing and staying home if you are sick.
Even though it won’t be required, he adds New Brunswickers should also feel comfortable continuing to wear masks in public settings which can mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the common cold and other infectious diseases.
