Residents in Grand Bay-Westfield will notice some action on River Valley Drive over the next couple of months as construction crews develop two new apartment complexes for Millennium Estates.
The Rothesay-based company announced on July 16 it would expand to the town with two 12-unit developments. The properties will be located behind the local Guardian and Scotiabank, complete with bay views of the Saint John River.
Andrew Dunn, owner of Millennium Estates, said in an interview Monday each apartment will include two bedrooms and one-and-a-half bathrooms and be outfitted with island kitchens, granite countertops and stainless steel appliances.
Millennium Estates also has properties in Rothesay, Quispamsis and Hampton. It wants to focus on smaller regions of New Brunswick rather than competing in larger cities. Dunn said the expansion to Grand Bay has been in the works for just about one year.
According to Dunn, the development will be significant for the town, especially for older adults interested in “apartment-style living.”
“Grand Bay-Westfield is a beautiful community, it’s got a lot of appeal for people who raise families there that want to stay in their area,” said Dunn. “This particular development is close to the doctor’s office, the drugstore, grocery store, good highway access.”
The buildings will be two storeys high and fully accessible from the ground level. In addition, each unit comes with two reserved parking spots.
Dunn said the demand for the apartments has been very high so far. As the company starts picking up its marketing campaign, he says eight of the 24 units have already been reserved.
“Based on our experience, it’s been fairly quick in terms of [leasing],” said Dunn. “Probably the quickest so far, but not that much further along in terms of where [our Hampton location] was at this stage.”
Dunn said the company is possibly interested in building properties in Sussex and potentially more developments in Hampton. But, he says he and his business partner prefer taking on projects one at a time and not rushing the process.
As for the Grand Bay-Westfield development, he expects the mid-to-high level apartments will be move-in ready by March 2022.
My partner and I really like building relationships with these great folks, you know, all of our tenants end up being the people that we look after and get to know really well,” said Dunn.
“It’s really about relationships and giving people the opportunity to find someplace to live that fits their needs, so for us, it’s very rewarding.”
