Just hours before New Brunswick lifts its COVID-19 restrictions on Friday night, the province reported seven new cases of the virus.
Five of the cases are in the Moncton region and involve one person under 19, three people in their 20s, and one person in their 30s.
One of those cases is travel-related, one is a contact of a previously confirmed case, and the other three are under investigation.
There are also two cases being reported in the Fredericton health zone involving a person under 19 and a person in their 30s.
One case is related to travel while the other remains under investigation.
New Brunswick now has 19 known active cases with no new recoveries reported since Thursday. No one is in the hospital.
Health officials say a total of 748 tests were conducted since Thursday.
After today, updates on the number of COVID-19 cases and vaccination rates will only be provided on the COVID-19 dashboard from Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.
Masks still required in health-care facilities
When the province moves to green at 11:59 p.m. Friday, all of the mandatory COVID-19 restrictions will end, including having to wear face masks in public.
But the province says masks will remain a requirement for now at all hospitals and health-care facilities, including COVID-19 assessment centres and vaccination clinics, “to reduce the risk of transmission within the health-care system.”
“Any patient with a valid medical exemption to wearing a mask, is asked to call in advance to the department or service to ensure arrangements can be made to accommodate them,” Dr. Jennifer Russell, the province’s chief medical officer of health, said in a news release on Friday.
Vaccine update
Public Health says 82 per cent of eligible New Brunswickers now have at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
The latest figures released Friday show just over 1,000 people received their first dose Thursday at a clinic or participating pharmacy.
In addition, more than 4,500 others aged 12 and older received their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
That means 66.7 per cent of eligible residents are now fully vaccinated, up from 66.1 per cent.
A series of mobile vaccination clinics are taking place throughout the province for those who have not yet received their first or second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
