A helicopter training nearby was able to quickly assist with the medical distress call on the Fundy Foot Path near Little Salmon River on Tuesday night.
A person was having a severe allergic reaction which required a medivac.
The RCMP requested help from the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre who sent a Cormorant helicopter.
Lieutenant Commander Brian Owens says the Cormorant helicopter was already training about 15 minutes away.
“The helicopter that was tasked was from 14 Wing Greenwood here in Nova Scotia. It was actually in the area doing training. … There were able to be tasked quickly to the scene and pick up this individual,” Lt. Cmdr. Owens said.
Owens said their search and rescue technicians are well-trained to rescue people in various situations from a ship at sea or remote areas.
“In this case, it was very fairly straightforward. They were able to get down to the ground, they do a quick assessment of the individual and then bring them into the helicopter and transport them to medical care,” Owens said.
The patient was flown to Saint John Airport where a waiting ambulance transported the patient to the hospital.
“Due to the size and nature of the Cormorant helicopter, most heliports aren’t able to take them in smaller areas,” Owens said.
