New Brunswick has reported 13 new cases of COVID-19, with a majority of the cases identified in individuals in their twenties.
The nine cases in Zone 1 (Moncton region) are all individuals 20-29. Eight of nine cases are under investigation, and one case is a contact of a previously confirmed case.
The two cases in Zone 6 (Bathurst region) are as follows:
- an individual 20-29; and
- an individual 40-49.
Both cases are under investigation.
The two cases in Zone 7 (Miramichi region) are two individuals 20-29 and the cases are under investigation.
The Moncton Health zone continues to carry the largest caseload with 36 of the province’s 51 active cases.
New Brunswick’s chief medical officer of health has shed light on the percentage of the province’s COVID-19 cases that are not fully vaccinated against the virus.
“Fully 68 of our 77 confirmed COVID-19 cases since July 1, which is 88 percent, were not fully immunized. Getting vaccinated will not only reduce your risk of contracting COVID-19 and of being seriously ill, it will also help to protect your family, friends and our health-care system,” said Dr. Jennifer Russell.
As of today, 68.6% of New Brunswickers aged 12 and older are fully vaccinated and 82.5% have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
