When asked about speculation surrounding a federal election call, Canada’s health minister wouldn’t confirm when or if there will be one.
But Patty Hajdu appeared confident one could be held even with the risk of a fourth wave of COVID-19, “I can’t comment about the speculation of an election but I can tell you that Elections Canada has indicated that they are prepared and ready should an election be called to do so safely.”
She was also questioned about concerns surrounding a rising number of COVID-19 cases or a fourth wave,
Hajdu says, “We have learned a lot in a year and a half about how to protect ourselves and others from COVID-19. I would hope that all political parties take seriously the importance of this fragile recovery and conduct themselves in accordance with the local and provincial public health rules, so that we can protect our friends and community members.”
She says cases are different across the country, and Public Health rules also vary depending on where you live.
“In my case, I wear a mask when I am canvassing. I knock on a door, I stand back. When we are engaging with constituents, do so safely.”
