The owners of the new Quispamsis Farmers’ Market are expanding to the Port City in the coming weeks.
Andrew and Isabel Ryder are in the process of putting together a weekly market at Dominion Park.
The couple had been considering other locations but Andrew said discussions with city staff led them to the west side park.
“We were talking to them about another area and they said ‘why don’t we consider something else,'” Andrew said in a phone interview.
“[Dominion Park] is what they showed us and we really liked the idea. The area is beautiful.”
The expansion comes just weeks after the couple opened the Quispamsis Farmers’ Market in the Arts & Culture Park behind town hall.
Andrew said the support on the west side has been amazing already, with a number of vendors already confirmed for the new market.
He said there are a number of things that will set their market apart from others already operating in Greater Saint John.
“It’s on the west side and they do not have a market there right now. There is bus service that’s going to be provided for people in town that want to come experience this on their Fridays,” he said.
Andrew also noted that the market will operate from the afternoon to the early evening rather than in the morning, running from 1 to 6 p.m.
He anticipates the market will be open as soon as this coming Friday, Aug. 13.
