Fredericton’s police chief is reflecting on the three-year anniversary of a tragic shooting that rocked the city.
It was on this day in 2018 that four people were killed outside an apartment complex, including two police officers.
Const. Sara Burns and Const. Robb Costello were killed while responding to a call of shots fired on the city’s north side on Aug. 10, 2018.
Civilians Donnie Robichaud and Bobbie Lee Wright were also killed in the shooting outside the apartment complex on Brookside Drive.
Police Chief Roger Brown said residents have learned so much about community and what it means to support one another in times of need.
“Throughout the early days of our grief, to the first anniversary and the very public trial, the people of Fredericton have shown incredible kindness,” Brown said in a statement Tuesday.
“One thing is for sure, the people in this city are resilient, and they come together in a time of need.”
Brown added that we all need to recognize that reflection and remembrance will look different for everyone and how they have been impacted by the tragedy.
“Whatever way you choose to mark this day, let it be a steppingstone to move forward with kindness and gratitude for this community and the wonderful citizens who call it home,” he said.
The man who admitted to killing the victims was found not criminally responsible.
