Auditions for the Saint John Theatre Company’s, (SJTC) main stage production of A Christmas Story will be held next month.
SJTC veteran Bob Doherty will direct the Christmas classic, which will run from November 24-27 at the Imperial Theatre.
“We tried to find a Christmas show to do in late November – we’ve done most of the biggies, A Christmas Carol, Miracle on 34th Street and so on, but A Christmas Story is one we have not done,” says Doherty. “People would be familiar with it, probably because they have seen it on TV, it often plays around the Christmas season.”
Auditions will be scheduled in the evening and will run September 1-3 and 8-9 at the BMO Studio theatre located at 112 Princess Street.
“One of the things everyone seems to say, whether they’re on the stage or in the audience, is that it’s great to be back to experience live theatre,” he said. “We’ve been doing things online and streaming and so on, but there’s nothing that can compete with the experience of an audience sitting in a theatre and having that experience live and in person.”
Doherty says the production will consist of 11 people (two men, two women, five boys and two girls) for 19 roles. Everyone who auditions will be required to be fully vaccinated and present proof of vaccination at the audition.
