It’s been another busy summer at the Anglophone South School District with large and small scale improvement projects.
Superintendent Zoe Watson said when their 22,000 students and 1,700 teachers leave in June, the work of custodians and tradespeople begins.
“There’s deep cleaning of schools that would be done. Furniture that is moved. New classrooms are set up. Teachers moving in, teachers moving out,” Watson said.
At last week’s District Education Council meeting, Watson offered thanks to the folks working very hard over the summer in buildings that are not air conditioned.
Every summer schools in the Anglophone South district get $4-million for approved improvement projects.
“Those would include larger projects like roofing. We have an elevator going in at Saint John High and some new windows,” Watson said.
Watson added the goal is for all work to be finished by the start of the school year which is a challenge when building materials don’t arrive on time.
Despite the pandemic, she said they have been able to get a lot done for schools.
Many thanks to our ASD-S custodians and facilities staff. During the summer they are very busy deep cleaning our buildings, doing repairs, and managing projects to get our schools in top shape for students' return! We appreciate all your hard work during these very hot months! pic.twitter.com/uIcXOTSRf3
