With just one week to go before a new school year begins, the new President for the New Brunswick Teachers Association says one of her priorities is the teachers mental health.
Connie Keating says she has seen too many good teachers leave their roles, “Teachers were being frustrated and instead of speaking out they were leaving the profession. This is a profession that I am very passionate about and if I can sit at decision making tables and possibly make a difference or influence change, then I wanted to be there.”
Keating says she wants to re-engage teachers to have a strong voice, “Something that has been as a result of COVID and the pandemic and what we have been through over the past 16 months, it’s advocating for pro-active supports for teachers and student mental health.”
She also wants to work with the government to find ways to find and retain more teachers in the province.
