Nova Scotia’s new premier will soon be making a phone call to discuss the Yarmouth to Maine ferry.
Tim Houston wants to know what the expectations are for the service over the next few years. It’s set to return in the spring of 2022.
“We’ve invested a lot in this service. We haven’t seen the return…but what I really want to know is what is the business plan,” said Houston following his first cabinet meeting as premier.
The ferry hasn’t run in over two years due to the pandemic and upgrades to the terminal in the U.S.
While Houston hasn’t talked to the operator of the ferry service since being sworn in, he confirms it’s on the agenda.
“We need to make sure it’s a good deal for Nova Scotians. Make sure it’s the right port, make sure it’s the right boat…the schedule needs to be appropriate.”
The province has a long-term contract for the ferry service with Bay Ferries through 2025.
