The man known by many as “The Watchdog at City Hall” has died.
Albert Vincent passed away Thursday at the age of 94, according to his obituary.
Vincent spent 24 years as a city councillor in Saint John up until 1995.
He was honoured in 2014 by the former Saint John Industrial Parks board, where he was a member for 47 years.
“I had the pleasure of meeting with Albert throughout my term as Mayor. He was a man of great passion, had many adventures and always spoke his mind,” former mayor Don Darling said in a tweet.
Vincent served on the Public Housing Committee for 23 years and was the city’s representative on the 1985 Canada Games Organizing Committee, which saw the construction of the Canada Games Aquatic Centre and a new UNB field house and track.
In addition, he was involved in the construction of several projects such as Point Lepreau, Market Square, and the Saint John Regional Hospital. Vincent was also believed to be the longest-serving member of the bricklayers union in Canada with more than 70 years as a member.
Vincent’s funeral service will be held in Rothesay on Wednesday afternoon.
