Another local family will have a home of their own later this fall.
Habitat for Humanity Saint John Region is adding a new home on Kappa Avenue on the east side.
Through a partnership with NBCC Saint Andrews, CEO Kevin Perry said students in carpentry, electrical and plumbing programs built a modular home ready to be moved in two pieces.
“The college built it throughout the school year. We were interrupted by COVID. The house was finished to the point where it’s able to be moved. We’re super excited and getting the foundation ready right now and hoping to move the house in the next four weeks or so,” Perry said.
Perry said the DeRoche family will be moving into the home already live within walking distance.
“Things like school and all that good stuff. [We’re] able to keep them in the same area that they are used to with their friends and support structures,” Perry said.
Perry said once the house is in place, work will focus on completing the work which includes landscaping.
He expects the family should be able to move in sometime in October or November.
