Agriculture isn’t mentioned very often on the election campaign trail which is disappointing for the New Brunswick Agricultural Alliance.
The organization has contacted the election candidates in the province to get their views about the industry.
More often than not, Alliance president Lisa Ashworth says any talk about agriculture is usually absent during campaigns.
“At the risk of sounding like a broken record, as two percent of the population we have to provide for 100 percent of the population because everyone needs to eat.”
Ashworth adds some urban candidates may say agriculture is not a major issue for them but she stresses how people in cities obviously need food in the same way rural areas do.
She thinks every voter should be asking questions about food.
“A sustainable food supply and a reliably affordable food supply and all the different ways you want to frame it… that’s something every single voter should be asking their elected officials about.”
