New Brunswick Public Health announced 51 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, as the province’s COVID-related hospitalizations rise to 15, including nine individuals who require intensive care.
The province discovered 10 new cases in Zone 1, the Moncton region.
There was one new case of COVID-19 found in Zone 2, the Saint John region.
Zone 3, the Fredericton region saw the largest increase among New Brunswick’s health zones, reporting 21 new cases.
There are four new cases in Zone 4, the Edmundston region and 12 new cases in Zone 5, the Campbellton region,
Lastly, Public Health announced three new cases in Zone 6, the Bathurst region.
Of the 51 new cases, Forty-seven – or 92 percent – of these new cases are not fully vaccinated
Following eight recoveries from the virus, New Brunswick’s active case count has now risen to 336.
As of today, 77.2 percent of eligible New Brunswickers are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and 85.8 percent have received their first dose of a vaccine.
“We are seeing an uptick in vaccination appointments since we announced our new measures that will come into effect next week,” said Dr. Jennifer Russell, chief medical officer of health in a government-issued news release.
“It is imperative for New Brunswickers to get vaccinated, so now is the time to book your appointment at a regional health authority clinic or call a participating pharmacy.”
Public Health has declared an end to the outbreak at the Southeast Regional Correctional Centre in Shediac. The outbreak was declared on Aug. 23 following a confirmed case at the facility.
