United Way Saint John, Kings and Charlotte launched its 62nd Community Campaign on Wednesday, focusing on supporting the community and celebrating local lives transformed by local love.
Campaign chair Shelley Wood says United Way’s 2021 campaign goal is to raise $1.72-million by February 2022.
“I’ve been a campaign volunteer in my workplace for many years, and I’ve always been proud to support United Way’s mission to build better futures,” said Wood.
The money raised by the campaign will provide funding to 19 different charities in Saint John, Kings and Charlotte counties. Examples of charities include First Steps Housing Project, Big Brothers Big Sisters and Ability NB.
Wood adds 2020 has been a tough year for everyone involved and while things are slowly returning to normal, the pandemic exacerbated difficult issues many people face in the region.
“The United Way has been tackling these unendurable issues of poverty, domestic violence, and mental health in ways that are making a real and measurable difference in so many people’s lives, and thus creating stronger communities for all,” she said.
