Stronger vaccination measures in New Brunswick are getting support from the association representing home care workers.
The province announced new measures this week aimed at increasing vaccination rates and slowing the spread of COVID-19.
“We think the strengthened vaccine requirements, together with strong protocols and the safety measures currently in place, will help to support New Brunswick’s most vulnerable to remain safe and stable at home,” said Tina Learmonth, president of the New Brunswick Home Support Association.
As of next Tuesday night, people will need to show proof of vaccination whenever they access certain non-essential services, businesses and events.
In addition, anyone entering New Brunswick must register their travel and upload proof of vaccination. Those who are not fully vaccinated must isolate for 14 days.
“The evidence seems to be supporting that the more people that are vaccinated, the more support that we’re going to have as a community, so we truly are all in this together,” said Learmonth.
The association is also calling on all personal support workers working in home care to get their COVID-19 vaccines.
Learmonth was unsure how many of those PSWs are currently vaccinated, noting the association is made up of more than 50 agencies throughout the province.
“If you are someone that’s working in healthcare and you’re choosing to take care of our most vulnerable, I’m hoping that the decision to get vaccinated has already been something you’ve done,” she said.
