Public Health reported 52 new cases of COVID-19 in New Brunswick on Thursday.
There were 17 cases in the Moncton region, 11 in the Fredericton area, and five in the Saint John zone.
There are now 574 active cases of the virus. Twenty-seven people are in the hospital with 12 of them requiring intensive care treatment.
As of Thursday, 78.4 per cent of eligible New Brunswickers are fully vaccinated while 87.1 per cent have had one dose.
Public Health also announced that third doses of mRNA vaccines are now being offered to certain groups of immunocompromised people in New Brunswick.
The third doses will be available to people who are moderate to severely immunocompromised due to a medical condition or treatment.
Anyone 12 and older who has at least one of the conditions listed below can register online for a third vaccination through a regional health authority or pharmacy clinic.
The list includes people who:
- Are receiving active chemotherapy (or immune therapy) for cancer.
- Have received a solid organ transplant and are currently receiving chemotherapy or other immunosuppressive therapy.
- Were born with moderate or severe dysfunction of their immune system.
- Are living with untreated or advanced HIV infection or AIDS.
- Are taking certain medications that severely affect the immune system.
- Have chronic conditions associated with varying degrees of immune deficit, such as asplenia and chronic renal disease with dialysis.
It’s recommended anyone getting a third dose of mRNA vaccine gets it at least four weeks after their second dose.
