New Brunswick health officials reported 68 new cases of COVID-19 and two virus-related deaths on Tuesday.
The new deaths involve people in their 80s in the Fredericton and Edmundston regions, bringing the total number of deaths to 56.
There are two new cases in the Saint John region, 22 in the Moncton area, and 25 in the Fredericton area.
In addition, there are 15 cases in the Edmundston region, three in the Campbellton area, and one in the Bathurst region.
Officials said 85 per cent of the new cases involve people who are not fully vaccinated.
A positive case was confirmed at École Champlain in Moncton, Polyvalente Louis-J.-Robichaud in Shediac, Sussex Elementary School, and Apohaqui Elementary School.
With 84 new recoveries reported, the active caseload now sits at 632. It is the first time the number of active cases has fallen in nearly three weeks.
Public Health said 40 people are in the hospital as a result of COVID-19, and 16 patients are in an intensive care unit.
According to health officials, 79.5 per cent of eligible New Brunswickers are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and 88.4 per cent have received their first dose of a vaccine.
