New Brunswick RCMP will continue to answer calls related to the province’s latest mandatory order under the Emergency Measures Act.
Corporal Hans Ouellette says the new order will have no impact on police operations or the force’s ability to respond to calls.
Many public health restrictions returned last week including mandatory masking and proof of vaccination is now required to visit bars, restaurants, gyms and other non-essential facilities.
For any protests or disagreements, Corporal Hans Ouellette says officers start with education and a warning before resorting to enforcement.
“Tickets or other enforcement actions are possible if people are not following the directives aimed at reducing the spread of COVID-19. Our police officers continue to use their discretion in all situations related to COVID-19.
Of course the RCMP respects and protects a citizen’s right to a peaceful demonstration and that is guaranteed under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.”
Ouellette says the goal during any demonstration is to ensure order and protect the safety and security of everyone involved.
