New Brunswick reported a record 99 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday and two more deaths attributed to the virus.
Officials said a person in their 40s in the Fredericton region and another in their 60s in the Edmundston region has died, bringing the number of COVID-related deaths to 59.
The Moncton region reported 36 of the new cases, followed by the Edmundston health zone with 29 and the Fredericton region with 24.
There were three cases each in the Campbellton and Miramichi regions, while the Saint John and Bathurst regions each reported two cases.
According to Public Health, 73 per cent of the new cases involve people who are not fully vaccinated.
Thursday’s new cases include:
- 27 people aged 19 and under;
- 11 people in their 20s;
- 15 people in their 30s;
- nine people in their 40s;
- 11 people in their 50s;
- 11 people in their 60s;
- five people in their 70s;
- seven people in their 80s; and
- three people aged 90 and over.
Figures show 27 of the new cases involve contacts of a previously confirmed case while the remaining 72 are under investigation.
Public Health also announced 64 more recoveries Thursday as the number of active cases climbed to 690.
Forty people are currently in the hospital due to the virus, including 16 who are in intensive care.

Meanwhile, 80 per cent of eligible New Brunswickers have now received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 88.9 per cent have received one dose.
