On Friday, Oct. 1, the Saint John Sea Dogs begin their regular season.
The Sea Dogs will be at home on Friday and face off against the Charlottetown Islanders.
Trevor Georgie, president and general manager for the Sea Dogs, said the Islanders are going to be quite competitive this year.
“Even our division, the Maritimes Division is probably going to be the toughest division in our league (QMJHL), and maybe one of the toughest divisions in the country, with Acadie-Bathurst, and Charlottetown being very strong, as well as us.”
As well, for Friday night’s game, Georgie expects the Islanders to play physical hockey.
“(Islanders) play really hard, have a lot of intensity, and play a certain brand of hockey that we’re used to seeing, and I think our fans, from our perspective, will see a team that plays similarly.”
With the Memorial Cup heading to Saint John in June 2022, Georgie added, the team has to stay focused and take things one game at a time.
“We need to bring it every night, we don’t want to be entering the Memorial Cup just because we’re the host, we want to get there naturally, and win it all.”
The home opener begins at 7 p.m.
