The Government of New Brunswick will now cover the costs for a pharmacist to renew prescriptions and assess uncomplicated urinary tract infections under certain circumstances.
Prescription renewals must be done by someone without a primary care provider or an individual that is in an urgent situation without access to their provider.
For UTI assessments and medication, the person must be between the age of 16 and 64 and have previously been diagnosed with an uncomplicated UTI.
“By publicly funding these services, we will ease the wait times for New Brunswickers and also alleviate some of the pressure on other providers in our healthcare system,” said Health Minister Dorothy Shephard in a news release.
New Brunswickers are still on the hook for the pharmacy dispensing fees and the cost of prescribed medications. First authorized to provide these services in 2014, Pharmacists previously charged patients for this work because it was not covered under the public health system.
