In November, residents and visitors will get to enjoy Santa Claus parades in Saint John.
Parades were cancelled last year due to COVID-19, however, as the pandemic continues, organizing each float — or bubble — for this year was a bit problematic.
“We have to ensure that the bubbles themselves are somewhat separated when they’re setting up for the parade, as well, the bubbles themselves have their own protocols that they’re dealing with whether it’s a school or a business,” said Blaine Harris, administrator for the parades at the Saint John Lancaster Business Association.
There are two parades in Saint John, and Harris noted the west side parade’s route will remain the same, but the uptown route is still being negotiated.
“I don’t foresee it going through King’s Square and down King Street, but we’re looking at going down Union Street … the construction at King’s Square has really put a damper at that corner.”
Harris added registration for the parades is open, however, the deadline for all entries is Friday, Nov. 12, at 1 p.m.
The 68th annual Saint John Santa Claus Parade (uptown) is Saturday, Nov. 20, at 6 p.m.
The 17th annual Lancaster Santa Claus Parade (west side) begins on Saturday, Nov. 27, at 1 p.m.
The 23rd annual KV Santa Claus Parade in Quispamsis and Rothesay is Saturday, Nov. 27, at 6 p.m., however, the Saint John Lancaster Business Association does not organize this parade.
