Landowners in the Millidgeville area of Saint John who want to participate in this year’s nuisance deer management program can now sign up.
The city said Monday that applicants must have their property assessed by provincial officials in order to receive a nuisance deer harvesting permit.
Officials with the Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development take into account lot size, safety concerns, and the number of permits issued.
Successful landowners can choose to hunt themselves or allow other hunters to use their tags. The city has a list of licensed bow hunters who are interested.
The hunt will take place during the regular bow-hunting season, which began Monday and runs until Nov. 21.
Council approved a nuisance deer management strategy in 2019 to help manage the urban deer population and Lyme disease.
