Recognizing the noises associated with the fire alarm and carbon monoxide detector in your home is the focus for National Fire Prevention Week which is October 3rd to 9th.
The theme is ‘Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety’.
New Brunswick Fire Marshal Michael Lewis said smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are the best tool for protecting and preserving life.
“Having a pre-dertermined location. Have two ways out of your home at all times. When you hear it, get out with your family and meet them outside,” Lewis said.
All smoke and carbon monoxide detectors should be replaced every 10 years.
About 50,000 gazettes were sent to all kindergarten to grade 5 students in New Brunswick with fire prevention activities and at home projects.
Lewis said kids can also enter a draw to be ‘fire chief for a day’.
