The Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association believes most truck drivers are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Executive director Jean-Marc Picard says the industry will not be mandating vaccines.
“Companies have to set their own policies on that front. I mean we can only share information on how to get it, the risks of not getting it and things like that.
“We’ve certainly been communicating the same things that we’ve been hearing from government. I would say the last statistics were probably the same as the general population, along those numbers… 80 percent.”
Picard says the industry desperately needs more drivers especially in Atlantic Canada where trucking is the primary mode of transporting goods.
He expects we will likely see more problems in the global supply chain and labour shortages are just one factor.
Picard adds don’t be surprised to see shortages of fuel or even food in the weeks ahead.
