Numbers released by the province show Saint John’s tax base increased by 6.24 per cent over the past year.
That is a marked jump from last year when the city saw an increase of just 0.12 per cent.
The city will receive $17.8 million in grants from the province in 2022, including $15.2 million in equalization grants.
Last week, the province reported that the assessed value of all properties jumped by 7.7 per cent year-over-year, the highest increase in 20 years.
Elsewhere, Rothesay’s tax base grew by 9.1 per cent from the 3.1 per cent figure reported last year. It will receive just $130,973 in grants.
The tax base in Quispamsis increased by 8.01 per cent, up from 2.8 per cent last year, and the town will get $115,254 in grants.
Grand Bay-Westfield, which will receive $265,869 in grants, saw its tax base jump by 9.48 per cent compared to 1.7 per cent.
No municipality in the province saw its tax base drop over the past year.
