The city’s growth committee heard Tuesday from local developer Percy Wilbur, who answered questions regarding the 99 King Street development.
Initial plans for the building are around 93 residential units on the top nine floors, and three floors of commercial space, including ground-floor retail.
When asked by the committee if the retail space on the ground floor could be used as a grocery store, Wilbur said he has been in conversation with large national grocery chains, who are not showing any support.
“They are leaning towards a facility that would sell groceries, but the two things they would be missing would be a deli, which is meat, cold cuts, and such, as well as produce.”
However, Wilbur mentioned this would work, as he believes it would help the City Market.
“Because those are the two areas that they do specialize in, and so I think it would enhance the city market if I’m successful in attracting these organizations.”
Wilbur also provided an update for The Wentworth apartment complex and added his team is facing a two-month delay, meaning the official opening has been pushed to January 1.
