These are anxious times for people in the Waterloo Village area of Saint John following the abduction and sexual assault of a sex worker.
Saint John Police released information last Friday about the attack which occurred on September 29th.
Julie Dingwell, executive director of Avenue B Harm Reduction and a member of the Sex Trade Action Committee said they had heard reports of a “violent john” who they warned women about.
“It’s thought that he may be targeting women in the street sex trade. That may not actually be the case. We know of a couple of women [not in the sex trade] that he grabbed,” Dingwell said.
Dingwell said with these recent attacks, it’s a time for men and women to be vigilant in looking out for one another.
“One thing that is happening is that women are talking to women now in the area about how careful they need to be. There are giving each other more in terms of bad john reports which is a good thing, enabling them to keep each other safe a bit,” Dingwell said.
The suspect in the attack is described a bald man with an athletic build thought to be in his 30s.
He is thought to be driving an older car with newer grey or silver paint.
