More than 120,000 people visited Hopewell Rocks this season and many were from around the world.
The figure for one of New Brunswick’s most popular attractions is impressive but it’s still well below the numbers reached prior to the pandemic.
Public relations and marketing coordinator Kevin Snair says the park did set some optimistic goals for 2021.
“Visitors came out in full force and certainly blew those numbers right out of the water. It started out slow but really grew throughout the season. We had a very strong fall.”
Once pandemic-related border restrictions were lifted in late summer, the park began welcoming Americans and many other international visitors.
‘When we finished this year compared to a normal year… still maybe only 40 percent of 2019 but a lot better than 2020. I think we’re heading in the right direction, things are looking promising,” notes Snair.
Although most bus tours were cancelled this year, he says many have already indicated they will return in 2022 possibly in even greater numbers than 2019.
He adds it was great to welcome school groups back this season and to hear the sounds of kids exploring the park again.
Over the Thanksgiving weekend, the park had visitors from across Canada, the U.S. and eight other countries.
