The Higgs government and CUPE New Brunswick will return to the bargaining table with a mediator on Sunday.
A short news release from the province Friday says the negotiations will be held with seven CUPE locals which represent almost 20,000 employees in the civil service, schools and the health-care system.
Ten CUPE locals have been in a legal strike position for more than two weeks.
On October 7th, CUPE president Stephen Drost said they wanted to “get back to the table and resolve this”.
The most recent offer from the Higgs government included a nine per cent wage increase over six years, while the union is seeking 20 per cent over four years.
Earlier this week, Transportation Minister Jill Green warned the Kennebecasis Island ferry service would have to shut down if a strike happened.
“There are a number of employees that work within the ferry system that are deemed essential employees, but it’s not our full complement,” Green said in an interview.
