If you don’t know where to turn when accessing community or government services, dialing 211 could be your best resource.
Launched one year ago in New Brunswick, 211 calls are answered by live operators 24-7 in English and French with interpretation services available for 150 other languages.
Daniela Fernandez, 211 director of community engagement, says the service has been built for everyone.
“So whether you’re an individual or a frontline worker or someone who is supporting a loved one or a colleague, you can call on behalf of other people to reach 211,” she notes.
“If for any reason you face barriers calling us and reaching 211 by phone, you can always have the entire database of services at your fingertips online.”
nb.211.ca was launched during the summer.
The 211 system is a partnership between the Department of Social Development, United Way Canada, the three regional United Ways in New Brunswick (Greater Moncton and Southeastern N.B.; Central N.B.; Saint John, Kings & Charlotte), FindHelp Information Services and the Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation.
The province has provided $550,000 to support the operational costs through the Department of Social Development and the Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation.
