A veteran politician has decided to run for the leadership of the New Brunswick Liberal Party.
Former longtime Liberal MLA and cabinet minister Don Arseneault believes he has a proven track record of bringing people together and solving problems.
“(We need) a leader that can unite young and old, north and south, French and English… a leader that has always stood up for New Brunswickers.”
Arseneault says he want to engage young people and rebuild the relationship with indigenous communities.
He intends to work tirelessly on three priorities – people, the economy and families.
“Whether it’s child care costs, student debt load, growing property taxes, affordable housing… we need to work towards lowering the financial and emotional burden to our families.”
Arseneault is the second candidate to join the leadership race after former Liberal MP T.J. Harvey announced his bid in June.
Roger Melanson has been interim leader since Kevin Vickers abruptly quit after failing to win a seat in the 2020 provincial election.
The Liberal Party is planning a leadership convention next spring.
