Saint John police remind residents to stay vigilant as fraud continues throughout the community.
In a release, the police force mentioned residents must continue to protect personal and bank information.
They outlined four different scams: overpayment, rental, puppy, and identity theft.
Overpayment scams occur when buyers use counterfeit funds to pay a seller more than the requested amount, then claim to have made a mistake and request a partial refund.
Puppy scams can include a purebred price being lower than other typical pricing, or a request of payment by way of gift cards.
Rental scams occur when a sense of urgency is put onto the renter, they decide to send an e-transfer to put the apartment on hold, but the apartment either does not exist or is already occupied.
Identity theft can involve unsolicited emails, text messages, and telephone calls. Police add your identity can also be compromised through stolen mail.
The service added in the release, anyone who has been approached over the phone or via email with what you believe to be a fraud or scam to contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
