Grand Bay-Westfield now has a new parks and recreation master plan in its hands.
Town officials said it has been a few years since the last plan was created.
The new plan will guide parks and recreation in the town over the next five to 10 years.
It has a number of initiatives under five strategic themes: inclusion and accessibility; communication and engagement; optimization of services and facilities; partnership; and sustainability.
Brittany Merrifield, the town’s mayor, said they received a lot of community feedback during the development.
“They want to see more direct delivery, they want to see more amenities, they want to see increased communication and engagement, optimization of our services and facilities, and they want to see sustainability not just from a financial standpoint but from a climate standpoint,” Merrifield said in an interview.
The town received more than 330 responses to a household survey it launched during the community engagement phase.
There was also engagement with stakeholders, community groups and the steering committee, said Merrifield.
She said it is anticipated the plan will be implemented in phases over the next few years.
“Our budget process is coming up and, based on that, we’ll be able to note what we’re going to be able to do right away and what we’re not going to be able to do right away,” said Merrifield.
Merrifield said they want Grand Bay-Westfield to be a welcoming place to live, grow and thrive, and this plan will help get them there.
