A new senior hockey league is set to face off in Southern New Brunswick.
The Southern New Brunswick Senior Hockey League will begin play on November 13 and run through February.
There will be four teams from St. Stephen, Saint John, Grand Bay-Westfield, and Quispamsis.
“We’re pretty excited, kind of a new vision for senior hockey,” said Stephen Evans, league president.
The league will have no owner, just team sponsors, and operators.
“We’re working collectively together, and all revenue is shared throughout the league, so therefore we’ve created a model for local players that are going to be successful, and have a survival,” Evans said.
So far, 12 regular-season games are scheduled, which allows players to compete in other leagues.
“Players can actually still play in their local leagues, and then they play Saturday night seniors, so it allows hockey players in the region to play both with their buddies, and also at the higher caliber, so those two factors, we think this league is going to be a great success,” mentioned Evans.
Each team submitted 20-person rosters, Evans added the league checked each of them over to make sure they were balanced and competitive.
