Snow and slush are on the horizon and car owners will need to start booking appointments to put their winter tires on.
Director of public and government affairs with CAA Atlantic Steve Olmstead says a good rule of thumb is to watch the temperature.
“When it starts to consistently fall below seven degrees in the fall, that’s a good indication that it’s time to start thinking about changing your tires.”
Olmstead says November can be a crazy weather month.
He says winter tires are specifically designed with rubber compounds that perform very well in colder and slushier conditions.
“It’s incredible how many people are surprised by that first day of snow or slushy weather and how often they’re taken by surprise, and they’re not prepared for it,” says Olmstead. “This is just an exercise in ‘you know it’s coming so might as well prepare now’.”
