COVID-19 started to become a reality for people almost two years ago, but no one could have predicted how long this pandemic would last.
New Brunswick’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Jennifer Russell says she meets weekly with other health professionals globally to talk about the virus.
As of Sunday, almost 87 per cent of eligible New Brunswickers are now fully vaccinated, “Countries who have really high levels of vaccination certainly have done better. No one is excited about another wave of cases, or a surge of cases in the New Year, but it is possible and we are certainly keeping an eye on risks for another variant, etc.”
She feels the province is making headway, “We do have the 5-11 year olds who are on our radar to get vaccinated later this month, so we keep making progress in that area and we absolutely have to keep making progress.”
As of yesterday, 93.1 per cent of new Brunswickers have received their first dose of a vaccine.
There were 81 more recoveries on Sunday.
Public Health reported 65 new cases, and the number of active cases sat at 534.
There are 20 people in hospital, including the 12 in intensive care.
Circuit breakers remain in effect in the municipalities of Moncton, Riverview and Dieppe in Zone 1 (Moncton region) and most of Zone 7 (Miramichi region).
