Rothesay residents will see their tax rate drop by four cents next year to $1.20 per $100 of assessed value.
Council approved the town’s $20-million general operating fund budget during a special meeting Monday night.
The tax rate reduction comes as the town’s property tax assessments increased by more than nine per cent.
Protective services, which include the police and fire budgets, make up nearly 29 per cent of the overall budget at $5.8 million.
Rothesay will contribute $1.2 million toward the Kennebecasis Valley Fire Department’s $3-million budget, and $3 million toward the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force’s $7.6-million budget.
Transportation services are the next highest expenditure at nearly $3.8 million, or 19 per cent. It includes costs of snow removal contracts, salt expenditures and wages.
The town also voted to transfer $3 million from its operating budget to put toward capital projects. The capital budget is expected to be approved in December.
Meanwhile, councillors also approved next year’s utility operating fund budget which comes in at just over $3.6 million.
Water rates will remain unchanged but sewer rates will increase by $10 a year to $410.
