It’s a sure sign of Christmas, the Salvation Army’s kettles are coming out across the province.
Things might look a little different this year though.
Lt. Gina Haggett, Director of Public Relations and Communications for The Salvation Army Maritime Division, said, after a limited rollout last year, you’ll be able to tap your debit or credit card to donate at most kettles this year.
“Communities have really responded, they really enjoy it, they tap every time they see it,” she said. “The volunteers love it. They can still say hello and they can still greet people and they can still thank people.”
She said it’s a quick, easy, and contactless way to give.
Haggett said you can still give the old fashion way, with cash or cheque, if you prefer.
“The bubble’s there of course,” she said. “It’s an icon.”
The yearly campaign raises money for food, clothes, and disaster relief, as well as Salvation Army community and shelter programs.
