The Market Square Parking Garage in Saint John will be getting two electric vehicle charging stations.
Saint John Common Council approved the addition of the charging stations earlier in November.
The stations are part of a partnership between Saint John Energy and several other municipal utilities.
Their goal is to bring 99 Level 2 charging stations to a number of communities across Atlantic Canada.
Earlier this year, council approved the addition of two charging stations at TD Station through the same partnership.
It is expected that Saint John will initially have a total of 12 charging stations through the program. The other four sites have not yet been announced.
Saint John Energy will look after the installation and ongoing maintenance of the charging stations within the city with all costs, including power, to be their responsibility.
The other municipalities taking part in the partnership are Perth-Andover and Edmundston in New Brunswick, Summerside in Prince Edward Island, and Antigonish, Mahone Bay and Berwick in Nova Scotia.
The project is partially funded by Natural Resources Canada as part of its Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program, which supports the government’s targets for facilitating electric vehicle use.
