The weather phenomenon La Niña will have a major impact on winter weather in New Brunswick.
In its winter forecast, the Weather Network says the early part of the season is expected to have a different pattern than the latter portion.
Meteorologist Jessie Uppal says temperatures will be slightly cooler than normal in December with near normal precipitation.
“It doesn’t mean that it’s going to be frigid for the month of December for our region. But anything that’s normal for us expect a few degrees cooler than that and some shots of cooler air at times.”
La Niña is predicted to strengthen as the season goes on and Uppal says the weather pattern will change for January and February.
She expects a shift to warmer temperatures and below normal precipitation.
“We are predicting above normal temperatures across all of the Atlantic provinces – the Maritimes, Newfoundland and all the way up into portions of far northern Labrador.”
Uppal adds Arctic air will be lacking in the region and the storms we get will have less snow and more mixed precipitation instead.
