A familiar face who has been delivering the news to Atlantic Canadians for decades has stepped aside.
Longtime broadcaster Steve Murphy signed off as chief anchor of CTV News at Six on Tuesday night.
“Have a good evening, and be well,” Murphy said, delivering his signature sign-off one final time.
Murphy announced in September that he would be stepping aside as host of the weekday evening news program.
The Saint John native has spent the past 45 years in broadcasting and has been with CTV for 35 of those.

During his final broadcast, Murphy expressed gratitude to all of those who have helped him along the way, including his parents, educators, news directors, and producers.
“Through all of it, I’ve stood on the shoulders of colleagues on both sides of the cameras whose work has often brought me credit I just didn’t deserve,” he said. “Sitting here is a tiny part. They do all the heavy lifting.”
Murphy also thanked his viewers as he “agitated the air” over the years, quoting the late American broadcaster Edward R. Murrow.
“Many have kindly sent cards and messages and text and tweets and even a few momentos about the way I’ve agitated the air, for which I am moved and grateful,” he said.
While Murphy is stepping away from daily newscasts, he will continue to focus on features and special projects for the television network.
