New Brunswick Public Health announced two COVID-19-related deaths and 95 new cases of the virus on Thursday.
A person in the 90 and over age group from the Moncton region, and a person in their 70s from the Saint John region died after testing positive for COVID-19.
New cases include 27 infections in the Moncton Zone, 17 in the Saint John zone and 30 in the Fredericton zone.
Following 78 recoveries, New Brunswick’s active case count rises to 691.
Active cases are the highest in Zone 1, the Moncton region with 214, followed by Zone 2, the Saint John region at 187 and then Zone 3, the Fredericton region holding 165.
Public Health reported today that 81.8 per cent of eligible New Brunswickers are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and 87.0 per cent have received their first dose.
“We are still seeing the importance of getting vaccinated and the layer of protection that it provides,” said Dr. Jennifer Russell, chief medical officer of health, in a news release.
“Currently, in our ICU, the rate of people unvaccinated versus those that are vaccinated is more than 30 times higher.”
The rate of new cases is 7 per 100,000 for the fully vaccinated, 18.1 per 100,000 for the partially vaccinated, and 35 per 100,000 for the unvaccinated.
Of those currently in hospital, the rate is 4.4 per 100,000 for the fully vaccinated, 13 per 100,000 for the partially vaccinated, and 21 per 100,000 for the unvaccinated.
Among those in the ICU, the rates are 0.5 per 100,000 for the fully vaccinated, 2.6 per 100,000 for the partially vaccinated, and 9.3 per 100,000 for the unvaccinated.
