Liberals in New Brunswick will choose their next leader on Aug. 6, 2022, in Fredericton.
The New Brunswick Liberal Association announced the date and location for its leadership convention on Friday.
Brian Murphy, president of the association, said he is pleased that the party will be moving forward to choose its next leader.
“There is a growing excitement throughout the province about the leadership race,” Murphy said in a news release.
Two people have publicly announced their intentions to seek the party leadership: T.J. Harvey and Donald Arseneault.
The winner will replace Kevin Vickers, who resigned after losing his seat in last year’s provincial election. Roger Melanson has been serving as the interim leader ever since.
Murphy said the board passed a resolution that says there will be no fees to vote, and no fees will be charged to registered Liberals who want to attend the convention.
“We are a party that openly welcomes all those who share our Liberal values, and we want to ensure that everyone who wishes to participate in the democratic process of selecting the next Liberal Leader can do so,” he said.
Registered members will be able to vote at the convention, or online the week leading up to it, according to the association.
