The Saint John Police Force is actively recruiting new officers.
It comes as the force anticipates 24 retirements over the next five years.
Chief Robert Bruce said in an interview that while the 24 members are eligible to retire, it doesn’t necessarily mean they will.
“Although anytime you lose people with that kind of experience that gap is a little bit harder to fill, but we’re doing things in our succession planning, our training, and development to fill those gaps,” said Bruce.
Bruce said the police force is looking for recruits who have a good moral standing, with great character.
“We would like you to have some volunteer experience, have some community experience where you’ve been engaged, any education that you have that can enhance your experience, as well as any previous work experience,” he said.
The recruitment campaign will include outreach through community sessions, and feedback from the Chief’s Advisory Committee.
As well as working with the Atlantic Police Academy to ensure they enhance the diversity within the police force.
