New Brunswick health officials are reporting 163 new cases of COVID-19, and two virus-related deaths on Friday.
Two people in their 70s one from the Moncton region and one in the Fredericton area have died.
Of the new cases today, 36 are in the Moncton region, 64 are in the Saint John region health zone, 34 are in the Fredericton area, 11 are in the Edmundston region, two are in the Campbellton health zone, five are in the Bathurst area and 11 are in the Miramichi region.
An additional 16 cases have been confirmed as the Omicron variant, bringing the total of confirmed cases to 30.
After 143 recoveries, active cases across the province now stand at 1,255.
There are 222 active cases in the Moncton area, 298 in the Saint John zone, and 467 in the Fredericton region.
82.5 per cent of eligible New Brunswickers are fully vaccinated, 89.1 per cent have received their first dose, and 11.9 per cent have received a booster dose.
34.2 per cent of children aged five to 11 have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
A reminder, beginning at 11:59 p.m. Friday, interim measures go into effect across the province, which are in addition to the current Level 1 measures.
Measures include:
- People must limit their household contacts to a maximum of a Steady 20.
- Distancing must be maintained at all times in businesses, retail establishments, gyms, salons and spas. Dining in restaurants is still permitted but two metres must be maintained between tables and proof of vaccination is still required.
- Entertainment centres, including movie theatres, professional sporting venues, casinos, etc., will be operating at 50 per cent capacity with distancing of two metres.
